Looking Differently

‘If you always do what you’ve always done, you always get what you’ve always gotten.’

> To get the most from this activity, remember these guidelines

Think about one aspect of your work which you have always done in the same way. Focus on that specific task or scenario. What does it involve? How do you feel about it? How vital is it to your wider work? Write for 5 minutes.

Now, imagine someone else is there observing what you do and how you do it. What do they see? What do they hear? Now write down what is happening as though you are the observer. Use the present tense and write in the third person (he is…/she is…/they are…).

Read back over what you have written. Is there anything which surprises you or that you might do differently in the future as a result of your writing? What final thought will you take away with you now that the activity is over?

When you are ready, take a few deep breaths and stretch your body.
