In this activity you will get the chance to be your very own cheerleader and to give yourself a much-needed shot of encouragement through writing.

> To get the most from this activity, remember these guidelines
Start by asking yourself: “What kind words would I like to hear right now?”
Reflect on this question and write for at least 3 minutes about any thoughts, feelings and ideas that come to mind. Tip: It may help you to imagine that you are talking to a friend who is going through what you’re experiencing. What kind words would you say to them?
Once you have decided on the kind words you wish to hear, take a blank page. Leave a space at the top and write the following sentence stems down the page:
Today I need…
So, I say to myself…
Today I feel…
So, I say to myself…
Today I think…
So, I say to myself…
Now fill in the sentence stems. Try to keep your responses as concise as possible.
When you have finished, read back over your sentences. How do they sound when you read the lines one after another? Do they flow? Reflecting on your words, is there anything you would change? You may wish to alter some of the words or phrases now. Perhaps you would like to create some line breaks or add in completely new lines. Alternatively, you can leave them all exactly as they are.
Congratulations! You have just written your own poem. Put a title at the top of the page and allow yourself a moment to celebrate your creativity.
